Camassia

Camassia is one of the special bulbous plants that looks great in a border, but is also recommended for planting under shrubs. The origin of most camassias lies in North America, where the bulbs served as food for the Indians until this century, from which the name Camassia (after Quamash or Camass) was derived. Besides a nutrient-rich sandy soil, Camassia also thrives on heavier clay soil, as long as the soil does not remain too wet in winter.
