Galanthus

Nineteen species of the snowdrop are known so far. This may well change and not all botanists agree on this number either. Species are found in nature anywhere in the world. Many snowdrops are very variable and if someone discovers a divergent snowdrop and names it then there is another cultivar. It is said, but no one has ever counted them, that there are now about 2,000 cultivars. That's a lot and new ones are added all the time during snowdrop season. It is " a trend" to collect snowdrops and fanatical gallanthophiles will pay big bucks for a bulb. With all these different species and cultivars, it is possible to have snowdrops flowering in the garden from autumn until April. It is important to plant the bulbs as soon as they arrive. Special snowdrops are often sold "in the green", keep an eye on our webshop for this.
