The properties of dahlias
Dahlias belong to the Asteraceae family and originate from Mexico, where they have been cultivated since 1800 for their beautiful flowers. The flowers range from subtle and singular to lush and pompom-like. In addition, dahlias bring a beautiful display of colours, from deep red tones to soft pastel colors and everything in between. In short, lots of possibilities with dahlias!
Besides attracting admiring glances, they also have a function. Dahlias attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies, which contributes to the reproduction of the flowers and the maintenance of the garden's biodiversity.
Dahlias produce copious amounts of nectar, which attracts bees because of the rich source of nutrition it provides. While feeding on nectar, bees come into contact with the stamens of the flower and collect pollen on their bodies. When they move from flower to flower, they transfer this pollen, which leads to pollination and ultimately seed formation in the Dahlia.
Butterflies also play an important role in the pollination of dahlias. Butterflies are attracted to the bright colors and sweet scents of dahlias, and while searching for nectar, they are inadvertently pollinated. When they flit from flower to flower, butterflies transfer pollen and aid in the process of pollination.

Tips for growing and caring for dahlias
To grow the dahlias successfully, we give you a number of tips:
1. Location: Plant dahlias in a sunny location where they receive at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day.
2. Planting: the dahlias can be planted in the spring after the risk of frost has passed. Make a hole large enough to accommodate the plant's root ball and plant it at a depth where the top of the root ball is just below the surface of the soil.
3. Watering: Water dahlias regularly, especially during dry periods. Keep the soil moist but not soggy. Avoid getting the soil too wet, as this can lead to root rot.
4. Fertilization: you can regularly feed the dahlias during the growing season. Use a balanced fertilizer to promote growth.
5. Support: Because dahlias can produce large blooms, they often need support to keep the stems from sagging or breaking. Place supports or stakes around the plants and gently tie the stems to keep them upright.
