The variable species A. carolinianum (syn. a.o. A. blandum) has a wide range, from Afghanistan to central Nepal. Occurring there on rocky slopes and easily propagated by seed. The supply is a selection lot created by self-pollination. The strong flower stalk bears a spherical inflorescence about 3 cm across, densely set with cylindrical dark pink, deliciously scented, flowers.
