Description

Allium oreophilum was discovered as early as 1831. A valuable species, suitable for the rock garden but also for naturalising. Oreophilus means: loving mountains. It is widely distributed in the Caucasus, Iran, Pakistan, parts of Turkey and Afghanistan. The selection offered comes from Samur, Azerbaijan. The semi-spherical inflorescence is formed by about 20 dainty crimson star-shaped flowers. Each petal has a contrasting green central vein on the outside. The flower stem is usually no higher than 15 cm the leaves form a rosette.
