A summer-flowering, burgundy allium which develops a sizable crest at the time of flowering, from which white flowers emerge. Up to the time of flowering the flower stem is bent, it is only just before flowering that the stem straigthens itself up. A. amethystinum is native to rocky soils in the east and center of the Mediterranean regions.
