Butterfly tulip. The name Calochortus is derived from Greek. Kalos (beautiful or graceful) and chortos (grass), because of the grass-like leaves. Sixty species are known, which are found in large parts of California. The bulbs are edible. Plant Calochortus on a drained soil not too early in the fall. 'Cupido' remains relatively low and has soft pink flowers.
