Named after botanist Pierre Edmond Boissier. Unlike most Colchicum, C. boissieri forms a rhizomatous tuber. The bright cherry-pink flowers with a fine white streak have contrasting, yellow stamens and appear in autumn, the usually two leaves develop in winter. Originally growing on stony hill terrain in southern Greece, especially on the Peloponnese and in south-western Turkey.
