Is an unusual herbaceous creeper with a fleshy above-ground bulb that can sometimes grow more than 30 cm in diameter. From the heart of the bulb, after the winter dormancy period, several shoots of up to 3 metres in length shoot upwards and cling to everything. Later on, many flowers develop between the fleshy green shoots, which are hardly noticeable because of their green colour. When dormant, B. volubis needs little or no moisture.
