The South African plant Dietes belongs to the Irisaceae and can be used in our country as a so-called ‘Cape plant’, meaning that the culture and treatment is similar to that of orangery plants. That means in summer in a sunny place outdoors, in winter frost-free at 5°C.
D. grandiflora is an evergreen Iris-like plant, flowering about from June to September with large striking white flowers with yellow and violet markings in the centre. Regular repotting in a clayey soil mixture + fertiliser creates beautiful large flowering plants.
