Description
Rohdea japonica 'Marginata': is native to Japan and China and is called Japanese lily.
It is an evergreen, slow-growing perennial plant and is distinguished by its 60 cm long, upright sturdy green leaves edged with a narrow creamy-white margin. Older plants produce - hidden between the leaves - short-stemmed, cluster-shaped inflorescences, the creamy-white flowers of which - after fertilisation - turn brown and produce fairly large red berry fruits. The plant has rather fleshy-thick roots and develops best in moderately moist, humid soil in a sheltered, slightly shaded spot in the garden. The rather thick fleshy leaves are popular with snails.
