In southern Greece (Peloponnese), this species is locally very common in ancient olive groves and below fig trees. Dr. C. N. Goulimy found this crocus in November 1954 but it was only in 1975 that this weatherproof, autumn-flowering species was named after its discoverer. The tubular flowers are pink with a hint of purple, with on the inside a white heart. The tuber is reminiscent of a hazelnut.
