A very special crocus, named after Hubert D. Mc. Edelsten, who crossed the form C. sieberi subsp. sieberi, native to Crete, with C. sieberi subsp. atticus in the 1920s. Two new forms emerged, one of which is the form available here. The exterior is shiny purple with a silver-white irregular band, the inside is silvery lilac. The throat is yellow.
