Description

Intro: 1757. The only transatlantic species. Occurs in North America, from Washington to Alaska and is referred to as ‘Eskimo potatoe’ by the natives. There, it is also known as Chocolate Lily. They can also be found on the Kuril Islands, Kamchatka and northern Japan. "Rice grain bulb" is an appropriate nickname for this plant, because of all the beads surrounding the original bulb after flowering. bright green leaves, usually five in number, surround the flower stem. Nodding, almost black flowers with conspicuous yellow anthers.
