I. uniflorum was introduced in 1832. Origin: Southern Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina and Peru, where they occur in large numbers in meadows and grasslands as well as on rocky terrains. They thrive in full sun. Crushed leaves have a mild onion flavor, the flowers smell of soap. Because of the onion-like scent, Ipheion is also often used between rose bushes against the pink nematode. Very suitable for naturalising.
