A spring-flowering Sternbergia, native to rocky slopes in among others Iran, the Kopet Dag to the Caucasus, Turkey and Syria. Collected from the northernmost population in Armenia. The yellow flowers have slender petals making them look like stars. The flat, slightly longitudinally twisted leaves are sea-green. This plant needs a lot of summer heat and drought to flower.
