Description
This species, native to the SW.of Buthan, was chosen because of the colourful ornamental value of the green-leaved but red stems, growing up to 1 m in height, on the underside of those green leaves, is strikingly red coloured. Each new shoot is crowned with a striking inflorescence, whose individual flowers are a vivid red colour. The flowering period falls from August to October. After flowering, june shoots develop from the cob-shaped spent inflorescence, which later even form roots. This phenomenon is called viviparous (viviparous). These young shoots can be used for multiplication of this species. Culture is identical to that of Hedychium gardnerianum.
