Intro: 1889. Origin: Central Asia, the Pamir-Alai mountains. Named after Dr Batalin, the director of the St Petersburg Botanical Garden who sent it to Kew around 1888. As soon as the sun shines, the flowers fold open completely. Grey-green corrugated leaves. Very nice in pots. Perfect for naturalising in a sunny spot and has been successfully used to naturalise in grass.
